WORCESTER-Theodore R. Laurie, 97, passed away on Tuesday, April 21st at Worcester Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. Ted's wife of 54 years, Gennie A. (Ciuksza) Laurie passed away in 2001. He leaves his daughter, Lorraine Laurie of Worcester and many nieces and nephews.
Theodore was born one of ten children in Worcester the son of Henry and Mary (O'Leary) Laurie. He attended Worcester Public Schools and Sacred Heart Academy. Ted was a WW II Army veteran and cooked for Gen. Montgomery of the 8th Army and the actor Jeffrey Lynn. He worked at U.S. Steel for 20 years and then for the U.S. Post Office for 30 years retiring in 1986. Ted was a member of NARFE, Green Island Residents Group, Inc., South Works VFW Post %233657, Grafton Hill American Legion Post %23323 and the Disabled American Veterans.
One of Ted's highlights in his life was when he met Humphrey Bogart before he met his wife Lauren Bacall. The family would like to thank Worcester Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center (formerly Radius Healthcare), the 4th floor staff, Nurse Kim Grant and the food service staff for their delicious meals.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, April 22nd from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at CALLAHAN~FAY~CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St. His Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 23rd at 10:00 am at St. John's Church, 40 Temple St. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. John's Ascension Campus After School Program, c/o St. John's Church, 44 Temple St., Worcester, MA 01604.
