WORCESTER
Thomas F. O'Connor, Jr., 60, passed away April 18 surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous struggle with lung cancer.
Tom was the son of the late Thomas F. O'Connor of Worcester. He is survived by his mother, Marcelle Degnan O'Connor Doering of Worcester; his sister, Elaine M. Ettenberg and her husband Peter L. Ettenberg of Holden; nephews, Jamie Quercio of Worcester and Dante Quercio and his wife Michelle of Holden; and his niece, Marisa Dailey and her husband Ryan Dailey of Holden.
Tom was born in Worcester and lived in Florida for many years before returning here. He is a graduate of Burncoat Senior High School, Quinsigamond Community College and took various courses at Worcester State College. He was a life long learner and was always interested in education. He was a member of Toastmasters International.
Tom loved music and dancing and was always the first one onto the dance floor. He practiced martial arts and when he was younger he was a lightweight Golden Gloves boxer. He occasionally was a model at the Worcester Art Museum and Assumption College. A devout Catholic, Tom would spend many hours practicing his faith. He had a native intelligence and a very keen sense of humor.
Calling Hours will be held at CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St. on Tuesday, April 21, from 5 to 7 PM. A Mass will be celebrated at St. John's Church, 40 Temple St. on Wednesday, April 22, at 11 AM. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
His family is grateful to the dedicated and compassionate medical staffs of UMass Memorial Hospital and Beaumont Rehab. and Skilled Nursing Facility and UMASS Memorial Hospice.
