Veronica T. Keating

WORCESTER-Veronica T. (Shattuck) Keating, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 2 at age 98. Veronica was born in Worcester, the daughter of George Shattuck and Anna (McDonough) Shattuck and was the youngest sibling to Ann, George, Mary, Rita, Howard and Grace, all deceased.

She leaves her six children, Thomas F. Keating and his wife, Maureen, Michael J. Keating, Carolyn A. Gemme and her husband William, Patricia A. Clark and her husband, John, Nancy A. Clark and her husband Richard, Patrick T. Keating and his wife Lynn. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas F. Keating and her son John J. Keating. She also leaves 27 grandchildren who were her pride and joy, and 54 great grandchildren.

Veronica lived life to the fullest with a fun-loving spirit that she shared with her husband of 68 years, Tom. Together, Tom and Veronica, aka 'Gramma and Grampa,' enjoyed countless adventures, via a variety of modes; snazzy convertibles, luxurious motorhomes or even motorcycles. If Tom said ''let's go" Veronica said, "how far?" and off they went. Theirs was a love story for the ages, as they met and were married within a few weeks, and from there, were always the first couple to light up any dance floor. In their later years, they enjoyed walks along Gooch’s Beach in Kennebunk, ME often accompanied by family.

As a reflection of her love for family, Veronica was an exemplary homemaker. Her house was kept spotless but comfortable and her meals were made with care. She was especially proud of her meatballs and potato salad, but the grandkids will remember her for taking time to make their favorite color Jello.

Above all else, Veronica loved her Catholic faith and was a daily communicant at her parishes of St. Charles Borromeo, and Our Lady of the Angels. She was rarely seen without her rosary.

In honor of her 95th birthday party, Veronica was asked the question "What life advice would you give to people? “Veronica’s response was simple: "Love as many people as you can." This was her legacy.

Besides her faith, family, fun and all people, Veronica especially loved chocolate.

The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the staff of the 4th floor SNF at The Overlook in Charlton for the exceptional loving care that Veronica received in her final stages of life.

There are no public calling hours. All are invited to a celebration of Veronica's life at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, 1222 Main St., Worcester on Tuesday, September 8, at 10:00. Casual and colorful attire are encouraged. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park.
