CHARLTON- Walter G. Daubney, 85, died Thursday, December 20, 2007 in his home after a brief illness. His wife, Elaine M. (Shea) Daubney died in 2003. He leaves five children, Diane Sullivan and husband Raymond of Charlton, Donna Bigelow and husband Brian of Charlton, Barbara Karman and husband Sid of Shrewsbury, Richard Daubney of CT and James Daubney and wife Rosemary of Charlton. In addition, he leaves fourteen grandchildren, thirty-six great grandchildren, a brother Kenneth Daubney in OK, a sister Marjorie Knight of Millbury and many nephews and nieces.

He was born in Douglas on November 6, 1922 to James and Marjorie (Turner) Daubney. In 1946, Walter married his sweetheart Elaine Shea, and together they shared 57 years of beautiful love and happiness. The greatest accomplishment and joy to Walter and Elaine was their family.

During his lifetime, Walter developed varied interests, which took him to a forty-year career as a machinist at Whitin Machine Works. He also served as a part-time patrolman in the Uxbridge Police Department. In his spare time he did cabinetry and woodworking. During World War II, he served his country as a radio operator and bombardier on a B17 bomber in the 100th Bomb Group flying out of England over the European continent. For this turbulent time in the Army Air Corp, Walter was awarded the Victory Medal, the Bronze Air Medal GO 1008 HQ3rd Air Div., Good Conduct Medal and American Theater Campaign Ribbon. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post%23 1385 in Uxbridge.

Together, Walter and Elaine worked as a team to establish and successfully operate Applewood Campgrounds of Charlton for over 25 years. Along the way they made many dear friends in their endeavors as campground owners and square dancers. Walter's most recent joy was developing a nature sanctuary with two miles of walking trails and picnic area. He hoped to open this sanctuary for the public's enjoyment.
