WEBSTER-William Joseph DeVito, PhD., 61, passed away Friday, July 30 after a brief illness. He leaves his wife of 32 years, Dr. Karen S. Ammerman; his father, Peter DeVito of St. Petersburg, FL; two brothers, Raymond DeVito of Salt Lake City, UT and David DeVito of New Jersey; and several nephews and nieces. His mother, Margaret (Walker) DeVito predeceased him.
He was born in Newark, New Jersey and was an Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam War. William graduated from Berkley Heights High School and Kean College, both in New Jersey. He then earned a master's degree from SUNY Cortland, Cortland, NY and a PhD degree from Syracuse University. Dr. DeVito was an Endocrine Physiologist and retired as an Associate Professor from the University of Massachusetts Medical School after 20 years. He was an avid golfer and a volunteer for the Massachusetts Golf Association. He also enjoyed preparing wonderful gourmet meals for friends and family.
A service will be held at 7:00PM on Tuesday, August 3 in CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester. Visiting hours are from 5:00 PM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Massachusetts Golf Association - Jr. Golf Fund, 300 Arnold Palmer Blvd, Norton, MA 02766.
