William V. Ferguson Sr., 85 , of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Plymouth, formerly of Auburn and Holden died Saturday, Feb. 22. at St. Petersburg General Hospital.
He leaves his wife, June E. (Conley) Ferguson, five sons, Gerald F. of Auburn, Kevin W. of Alexandria, VA, William V. Jr. of Hilo, Hawaii, Brian M. of Phoenix, AZ, and Timothy J. of Charlton and two daughters, Patricia A. Sprunger of Worcester and Jane F. Kolofsky of Auburn, 17 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. His first wife of 37 years, Rita B. (Williams) Ferguson in 1983. Four Brothers, Stephen A. Ferguson, Paul J. Ferguson, Gerald F. Ferguson and Walter H. Ferguson all predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Patrick H. and Margaret E. (McInerney) Ferguson.
He was a US Navy Veteran of WWII and participated in the Invasions of Okinawa, the Phillipines and saw other action in the South Pacific.
He was the Superintendent of Heating for Worcester Public Schools retiring in 1981.
He was a founding member of the Emerald Club, past member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, the Sons of Ancient Irish Kings, and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of Local 408 and Local 537 Steam Fitters Unions and the North American Martyr's Church. He was active in youth baseball, played golf and enjoyed cross county travel. He was a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans.
A Funeral will be held Thursday (Feb.24) from Fay Brothers Funeral Home 9 Hammond St. Worcester (www.faybrothers.com) with a Mass at 10 a.m. in North American Martyrs Church 8 Wyoma Dr. Burial will be in Saint John's Cemetery. Calling Hours are Wednesday (Feb.26) from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Salvation Army 630 Main St. Worcester 01608 or the American Heart Association 30 Speen St. Framingham 01701
