H. William Ferris 70, of 4 Sherwood Rd. died Sunday, Oct.12, at UMASS Memorial Medical Center-Belmont St. Campus, after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 47 years, Evelyn R. (Langton) Ferris; a son and a daughter in law, William F. and Tina Ferris; daughters and sons in law, Lynn and Francis Morin, Joanne and James Wallace, Nancy and Matthew Walsh and Catherine “Katie” and William McGuirk, a step-brother Jack McCarthy of Northboro. He was the proud grandfather of 17 grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by a infant son and grandson. He was born in Worcester, son of Herbert W. Ferris and Viola (Johnson) Ferris McCarthy. He graduated from South High School and Worcester State College and received a masters degree from Boston University. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War.
He was a Teacher and a Coach at Burncoat Senior High School for several years retiring in 1994.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, the Massachusetts Coaches Assoc., Massachusetts Teachers Assoc., the Retired NEA, Knights of Columbus Alhambra Council #88, Main South American Legion Post #341, and Past President of the Metropolitan Diners Club. He was also a Coach at St. Mary’s High School.
A Funeral will be held Wednesday, Oct 15, from FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME 9 Hammond St. with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church 189 Oxford St. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester. Calling Hours are Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
