WORCESTER-William D. Goodhue, Sr., 84, of 370 Sunderland Road, died Wednesday, September 14, at the Shrewsbury Crossing Assisted Living Facility after a long illness. He leaves his wife of 58 years, Eleanor C. (Stromberg) Goodhue, his daughter, Janice M. Goodhue of New York City, a son, William and his wife Kathleen Goodhue of Chelmsford, four grandchildren, Tara M. and Brian D. Goodhue, William D. Goodhue, III, and Erin K. (Goodhue), wife of Jason Meyer, two brothers, Richard Goodhue, Roy and his wife Lee Goodhue, a brother-in-law, Bert Larson, sister-in-law Marion (Stromberg) Anderson, several nephews, nieces and cousins.
Bill was born and raised in Worcester, the son of Donald and Eileen (Solmonson) Goodhue and graduated from Worcester Trade School as a machinist. He was an army veteran of World War II and served in a tank destroyer battalion in the US infantry, earning numerous medals including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He worked for U.S. Steel and Worcester Pressed Steel Co. before becoming a career Worcester firefighter. Lt. Goodhue was stationed in Quinsigamond Village for many years. Bill's hobbies included fishing, hunting, golfing, model airplane building and driving his car.
The funeral service is Monday, September 19 at 10:00 AM in LINDQUIST LUNDIN FUNERAL HOME, 36 Butler Street. Burial will follow in All Faith's Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday, September 18 from 4:00 until 6:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street Framingham, MA, 01701.
