WORCESTER
William F. McGrath, 84, of Worcester died Thursday, January 13 in St. Vincent Hospital. His wife of 54 years, Marie T. (McDermott) McGrath died in 2005. He leaves two brothers, Patrick F. McGrath and his wife Shirley of Worcester and John H. McGrath of Lowell, several nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. A brother, Joseph A. McGrath and two sisters, Kathleen P. McGrath and Mary E. Truedson predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Patrick F. and Kathleen B. (Gilrein) McGrath and graduated from Boys Trade School. He was an Army Veteran of WWII.
Bill was a steam fitter at William F. Lynch Company for 38 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Local %234 Plumbers and Steam Fitters Union, the Vernon Hill American Legion Post %23435, the Adelphi Council Knights of Columbus %234181 and its 4th Degree Bishop O'Reilly Assembly, and Our Lady of Lourdes Church. He was an avid sports fan, loved gardening and enjoyed golfing with the Greendale Men's Club at Green Hill Golf Course.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, January 18, from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St. with a Mass at 10 AM in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton St. Burial will be private in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting Hours are Monday, January 17 from 4 to 6 PM at the funeral home. The Knights of Columbus will perform a ritual at 5:30PM.
