WORCESTER-Winifred M. (Walsh) Gingras, 88, passed away peacefully, Thursday, February 12, surrounded by her family at St. Vincent Hospital, after a short illness.


Her husband of 60 years, Paul J. Gingras died in 2012. She leaves seven children, Paul E. Gingras of Shrewsbury, Edward W. Gingras of Vail, CO, Thomas A. Gingras and his wife Michelle of Worcester, Brian A. Gingras of Worcester and her daughter in law, Colleen, Mary M. Maroney and her husband Michael of Auburn, Nancy M. Gingras of Rutland and her son in law, Peter F. Johnson and Francis A. Gingras and his wife Lisa of Worcester; 15 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren, and another great grandchild due in June; several brothers and sisters in law and many nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of the Walsh clan and was predeceased by her six siblings, John, Marguerite Courtney, James, Edward, Bernadette Govoni and Joseph. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Edward and Mary (Collins) Walsh and graduated from Saint Peter's High School.


Winifred was an operator at the former, New England Telephone Company. Her children and grandchildren were her whole world. She loved to laugh, have a good time and show off her Irish wit. Winifred loved baking for family and friends. She enjoyed spending time at Salisbury Beach and wintering at Ft. Myers Beach in Florida with her husband Paul.


Visiting Hours will be held Monday, February 16, at Callahan~Fay~Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St. from 4 to 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, February, 17 at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Please go directly to church. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John's Church, Food Pantry, 44 Temple St., Worcester, 01604 or to the Worcester Veterans Homeless Shelter, 69 Grove St., Worcester 01605.
