WORCESTER - Zartar (Karacayoyan) Tashjian, 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 7th, 2019, at Dodge Park Rest Home in Worcester, MA, after the onset of a sudden illness. She was born January 2, 1923 in Kharpout, Armenia, daughter of Toros & Djohar Hagopian. In 1947, Zartar married Hapet Tashjian in Marseille, France, before immigrating to the United States in 1948.
Having always enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting, Zartar was an accomplished seamstress, working many years in the family's tailor shop on Lincoln Street in Worcester. In addition, she was a wonderful cook and baker. Zartar served as a volunteer at Worcester's Hahnemann Hospital, and she was a member of Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church for many years. She adored her cat, Mineu.
Zartar is preceded in death by: husband, Hapet Tashjian; father, Toros Hagopian; mother, Djohar (Ajoolian) Hagopian; brothers, Charles Kara & Joseph Hagopian; sister, Jeanne (Karacayoyan) Morin; sister-in-law, Georgette (Taland) Kara; and several nieces & nephews.
Zartar is survived by: son, Paul Tashjian & daughter-in-law Kristina (Unger), of Tequesta, FL; son, Richard Tashjian & daughter-in-law, Nancy (Haroian), of Sterling, MA; daughter, Nancy Tashjian, of Brookfield, MA; grandchildren: Christopher Tashjian & significant other, Brianne Killoran, of Woburn, MA; Nicholas Tashjian of Chandler, AZ; Christina (Tashjian) Holman & husband, Keith, of Marlboro, MA; great-grandchildren: Alexandra & Maxwell Holman. Also: brother-in-law, William Morin, of Northbridge, MA; sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Boloyan) Hagopian, of Worcester, MA; and many nieces & nephews.
Family & friends may pay their respects at calling hours to be held at Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church (635 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605) on Saturday, April 27th, 2019, from 9:30-10:30am, followed by the funeral service at 10:45am. Burial will be at Hope Cemetery in Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church.
