WORCESTER-Zoila (née Aviles) Cornejo, 85, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2022, at Notre Dame Long Term Care Center.
She was born in Manta, Ecuador, October 2, 1936, daughter of the late Ernesto Aviles and Maria Contreras and moved to the United States in 1982. Zoila was a member of the Cathedral of St. Paul.
Zoila was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Cristobal Cornejo, Sr. on May 5, 2013, and her daughter, Maria Isabel in 2001. She is survived by two sons, Cristobal Cornejo, Jr. of Worcester, and Luis Cornejo and his wife Diane of Holden; three sisters, Pilar Bocanegra of Phoenix, AZ, Cecilia Yepez and her husband Enrique of Paxton and Sandra Velazquez and her husband Eduardo of Spencer; a stepson, Alvaro Cornejo and his wife Gabi of Worcester. She also leaves four grandchildren, Jillian Dinkel, Jaclyn Sullivan, and Mateo and Sofia Cornejo, two great-grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Eddy Sonia del Pilar Aviles.
Zoila was a very ambitious woman and was very proud that she completed the ESL program at Quinsigamond Community College and obtained her drivers license after moving to the United States. She enjoyed sewing and spending time with family and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at Notre Dame Long Term Care for the wonderful care they provided to their mother during her time there.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Friday, May 20th at the Cathedral of St. Paul, 38 High Street, Worcester. Family and friends are requested to gather directly at church.
